Hello,
I had some unfortunnate event and I lost the server that my JIRA is hosted on. Is there a way to get the database or some of it back? Do you guys have anything I can build from, for example the debug files I have sent you in the past?
Ziad,
Debug files don't contain any database for content of Jira, so it wouldn't be useful in recovering data, unfortunately.
If you have no backup of your database or site files, then it won't be possible to restore. It's possible that an automatic backup has been configured, so I would recommend checking there.
Let us know if you have any trouble.
Regards,
Shannon
OK I understand I lost all my data and time logged etc...I am looking into the automatic backup to see if I ever activated it.
What about the custom project settings and custom fields and workflows? None of this is in the debug zip?

Also the list of plugins installed so that I can reinstall them?
Is there anything that helps me out rebuild my JIRA?

Ziad,
No, the support zip does not contain any backup data. It only lets us know the log files, what add-ons are installed, and copies of configuration details, but no backups.
I believe this is the debug zip you're referring to?

Ziad,
I just saw your 2nd reply. The support team might be able to let you know what was installed at the time you send your support zip.
If you still have a copy of that ticket you can reply to it and someone will see if we still have a copy of your support zip and can see what add-ons were installed. Note that attachments are purged from support tickets after some time, so it may be that we no longer have a copy.

Also I just noticed that with the new reinstalled instance, the backup service exists by default... How can I find out if there was an automatic backup in the previous machine?
Also if that backup is done on the same server then it won't help me much because the whole server got wiped!!
Pretty horrible hosting company OVH if you ask me, I was in hospital when the renew date was due and they sent me an email saying I have 5 days to renew of the whole server will be wiped!!!! :(

Hi Ziad,
It would have been put by default in your export directory, but you could change the location. The best thing would be to ask your other administrators in case one of them set it, but otherwise it will prove difficult for you to check any other way if backups were set on a destroyed instance.
Some hosting companies keep backups in case of server failure, and can restore these for a fee. It might be worth checking with them in case they have one of those available for you.
One more thing - you could check your email for any notifications from the Jira server. You might be able to get some data off of the server from there, specifically any ticket details.

Very worst case scenario is to get all the email notifications and write a parser to extract all the tasks info and summary and comments and logged time but this is so expensive and not 100% correct since I will be checking the emails sent to me only.

Understood, Ziad. This wouldn't help you retain your entire Jira instance, but if there was a particular issue you worked on that you needed more information from, it would be a viable solution to obtain that data.
