Is there a way to control read access by Jira workflow status?

Our organization has a need to control read access based on workflow status.  How can we accomplish this?   Is there an add-on needed?

You don't need an add-on.  There are two approaches.

1. Create an issue security scheme, then set the security level as you use the transitions to change the status
2. Use workflow properties to change the browse permissions for each status
