When creating a backlog, all the initiatives are listed. There is a sidebar (Versions & Epics) but my product owner said, "I wish I could see the initiatives - in this screen - with all their associated epics and maybe Stories right in the drop down." Someone else chimed in, "Oh, we can create a dashboard for that."
A) Is there a way to do it right in Backlog?
B) Can there be a dashboard created for view initiatives & their associated epics? I haven't been able to find any examples.
There's not an option to include Initiatives as an "addition" to the Epics Panel, if that's what you mean?
----------------
You could do this on a Dashboard - but it wouldn't necessarily be a hierarchical view of Initiative > Epic > Story - you might need to consider using multiple Filter Results gadgets (for example) to show an Initiative, its Epics and then its Stories separately.
There might be a way to order Initiatives, Epics and Stories in one JQL filter result, but it would likely require some work, with a custom field holding unique identifiers to order it by. There's no natural way of ordering it in this manner, that I know of.
What visualisation are you hoping to achieve on the dashboard?
----------------
You mention Initiatives - do you have Advanced Roadmaps? I find for hierarchical work breakdown, Advanced Roadmaps' roadmap view is a great option.
There's an example of the roadmap view on this page!

I appreciate the quick reply!!
So, no I don't want to add initiatives to the epics panel; I was just calling out that we see it, but it's value is low to us right now.
Let's say these three lines were initiatives in the product backlog, displaying like so. My product owner wants to be able to click an initiative and perhaps, a dropdown appears with all the associated epics (and, then click the epics to see all the Stories - unnecessary but same concept).
If this isn't possible, is there a way to create a dashboard view showing such!?

Natively, this isn't possible from the board; neither do I know of a gadget which could provide a fluid hierarchical view!
You could have a dashboard which displays a list of Epics per Initiative, but these would be separate filters as opposed to an expand/collapse type arrangement.
As above, if you want something along those lines, Advanced Roadmaps is a better option for visualising the full scope across the whole hierarchy :)
