Is there a default or inherent hierarchy to Issue Types? If so, what is it?

Christie_Circle May 8, 2020

Hello all, I am looking at the Issue types in JIRA and it is not obvious to me if there is an inherent hierarchy among Epics, Features and Intiatives? It seems to me it would go Initiative > Feature > Epic > Story, but I don't see an explicit screen for confirming this or altering it, say, if you don't want to use Feature, for example. Where would I see this? Thanks so much for your time! Best regards, Christie

Plain Jira (Jira Core) and Jira Service Desk have a simple hierarchy of

Issue -> Sub-task

Jira Software promotes the Epic type so we get

Epic -> Issue -> Sub-task

Portfolio for Jira can add Themes and Initiatives and the Structure App can add layers all over the place.   (Of course, you'll need to do a bit of config on those two to tell them what you want.  With Jira Software, there's no config, you just get Epics promoted)
