It will not matter if you are in hosted in Linux or Windows platform. I did try the same in one of my machine and works fine, may be I have lesser number of projects. If you really want to access the JIRA contents from Ipad or any mobile device, I would suggest you to upgrade your jira to 8.3 or later which has the app support.
