Is it possible to edit the start date of child work items from the parent work item overview?

Title as clear as I can make it, screenshot should help! I can't edit the start date here, early googling suggests this is how it is for now, but just wanted to verify a bit further, and make sure I wasn't missing some admin system hidden away on the back end.

I have checked field settings and configs, but this field is locked, not that I would know where to go to get this to work.

The field is in a edit screen, and it can be edited from other views (timeline, all work, directly in the child work item).

It's interesting that Due Date is editable, which is why I keep telling myself, surely this is not intended/I must be missing something.

Hi @Joshua Cable _ Da Vinci Trading

Welcome to the community.

This is not possible, not a fields that are shown, or set to show in child items are inline editable.

Hi @Joshua Cable _ Da Vinci Trading , welcome to the Atlassian Community and thanks for your post.

The Start Date is a locked field in the sense that it is a field created when the site is created so you cannot remove it. However, it is just a date field, which you should be able to modify (unlike the created date, which is metadata / you cannot modify). Please can you check the Start date is on the edit screen for the work item type of Task? I think that is likely the issue.

Best wishes

Thanks for the warm welcome and for checking in @Valerie Knapp

I have checked and confirmed that the start date field is in the edit screen, alongside the due date field.

One thing to note here, is the Parent Epic is in one project, and the Child Task is in another. I'm not sure if this is relevant, but worth mentioning.

'Task' is not in the Parent project, which we thought might be the issue, but we did some testing (added Task in temporarily) and it still is not editable. We also checked another project that has both Epics and Tasks, and these are also not editable. (But the Due date is.)

Edit: I've just seen the post from Marc below, which suggests it could be a known bug - thank you for checking anyway!

Hi @Joshua Cable _ Da Vinci Trading , thanks for your reply.

As @Marc - Devoteam correctly says, you cannot edit the 'Start date' inline, so from another work item as you are showing in the screen. From the parent work item, it is not yet possible to edit the attributes of any children shown.

However, my point was that if you open the task work item, you should be able to edit the 'Start date' if it is on the edit screen. If you can't, yes, that is another issue.

Cheers
