I have the standard version of Jira. I am trying to manage which users/ groups can view certain spaces. When setting up a space I see I can make a space private with the standard version. However, the projects/ spaces were set up with the free version. Does this mean i need to re-set up the projects/ spaces so that I can set them to private?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Natalie
Hello @Natalie Keane
Regardless of whether you were on the Free plan when you set up the projects/spaces, if you are now on the Standard plan then you can now change the Access setting for the Team Managed projects/spaces. if you are either an administrator for the Jira App or an administrator for the individual Team Managed project/space.
Click the ... button next to the Space name in the navigation panel and select Space Settings.
Then select Access from the panel on the left, and you should see the option to Change Space Access on the right.
Click that button on the right to change the Access setting for the Space. You can choose Open, Limited, or Private.
Hi
Thank you so much for helping me and making it so easy to follow. The only trouble I am having is that when I go to space settings it only comes up with the below. What does this mean? I think I have been given administrator rights.
I'd be really grateful for anymore help you can give. When setting up a new space it offers me the option to make it private, etc.

I've now managed to find the side tab so that I can do as you have suggested above. Honestly, thank you so so much. Nat

Hello @Natalie Keane
If you are the Jira space administrator for team-managed spaces, you can set your space to private when they are created. Also, this can be done even if you are a Jira administrator (you will see options like System, Spaces, Work items in your Settings option - cog icon).
You will be able to do this if you see Space settings option when you click on three dots of that specific space.
For company-managed it's different. To set that Jira space, you need to change your Browse Projects permission to only certain users. Best practice is not to use individual users, rather to at least add them to the groups, or to create new Space roles (you need to be a Jira administrator for this) and assign them to certain people.

Thank you for this. However, the spaces were already set up under the free plan of Jira. Does this mean now that I have standard, I need to re-set up the spaces under the standard or is there a way to change viewing permissions have already been set up under the free version of Jira?

Permissions are only available when you have the Standard version for company-managed spaces. Nothing is changed for team-managed spaces.

I really appreciate your help, but don't understand if I can edit access/ viewing rights to spaces that were created under the free plan now that i have standard?

@Natalie Keane Yes, you can change the permissions scheme for your project. You need to go to the Space Settings -> Permissions. You can edit the permissions settings to provide exactly the access that you want for your space.

Thank you. However where is Permissions in space settings? I can't see it.

First, you need to click on three dots next to your space name. If you see space settings, then you can make changes. If you do not see that, then you are not the space administrator, and someone who is, needs to assign you the Administrators space role. This is for the company-managed spaces.

These are the only options I get under space settings (when clicking on the three dots). I've been made an administrator. Is that different to administrator space role? Where you mentioned this is for company-managed spaces, all my projects are team-managed. This doesn't seem to let me upload a screen shot but it basically only offers (under space settings): name, space key, catergory, space owner and default assign.
