I have been seeing a lot of Cloud-only functionality recently.  It seems like the early signs of the end for server-based installations of Jira.  Are we moving in this direction?

i do not see that happening. Maybe in time (many years) data center replaces server so we end with two solutions instead of three. There are simply too many customers and use cases for server solution.

It's not a surprise - a lot of people in the ecosystem have been talking about it for years.  I remember conversations about "when server dies" at Summit 2015, and when the announcement went to partners, I was miffed because it meant someone else won the pool bet we'd set up on the date in 2016 - I'd bet on a February 2021 announcement, but the winner had December 2020 as the closest.

Well actually I was sort of right. EOL is 2024 so that is many years.😜

Its not a surprise, but it is unfortunate in a lot of ways.  Until I started working for a partner organization I had nobody in the ecosystem to talk to about things, except for people I might see at an AUG, when I was able to attend them.  When I wrote this I think I might still have been looking for a job, and was getting somewhat concerned because all of my knowledge was server based and Cloud was this weird thing with terrible navigation and blinding white backgrounds pretending to be Atlassian products.  The way Cloud is now is FAR better than it was, and its getting progressively better.  However, I don't see the same level of plugins on Cloud as I do on server.  I hope we'll get to seeing fantastic free plugins like Time in Status field for Cloud.  (jibrok - please make it happen)  There are other fantastic plugins like lookup manager and multi level cascading select that i have built mission critical solutions around that have NO possible migration path to cloud.  I don't know how thats going to work.
