I created a sheet that serves as a dashboard for showing active projects so our client can access the updates since updating the sheets is a tedious process with potential errors. I'm looking for ways to automate the Google Sheets for our Jira issues. However, there are several drawbacks to this sheet that I don’t think I can overcome without updates to Jira.
Can someone help me with this.
I suggest an alternative approach, also based on spreadsheets, that is very customizable for you and very convenient for your client.
Using the Better Excel Automation app you can fully automatically generate a new Excel spreadsheet and email that to your client. It can be triggered periodically or by events (like issue status changes, project creation or such). The app is completely free!
The Excel automation itself is integrated to standard Jira Cloud automation rules:
The automation app relies on the Better Excel Exporter app to produce the spreadsheet from a customizable Excel template (various samples)! So you can create your template, set up the automation rule and forget it. Your client will receive the next ready-made report just how you configure it! This app is free for 10 users and paid, but affordable for large teams.
All in all, your client will receive a custom email with the Excel sheet attached:

Hi @Joanna Mae Natial ,
You can also try out our Google Sheets Integration app from the Atlassian Marketplace. Our app supports one-time, scheduled, and real-time updates of Jira issues to Google Sheets. Everything can be configured directly in Jira including permissions. Our app is more reliable than Atlassian's Google Sheet's add-on, which has frequent issues. Also, we support bi-directional updates. If desired a user in Google Sheets can make updates that are reflected back in Jira.
Try it out, there is 30-day trial.
Kind regards,
The Mobility Team

Hi @Joanna Mae Natial ,
One app that gets used for this use case is Jira Cloud for Sheets. It offers a one-way sync from Jira to Google Sheets. Atlassian made this app a few years ago, but announced they were going to get rid of it about 4 years ago. People got upset, so they didn't. But... they also haven't updated it in a couple years and there have been some posts here about how it can be buggy. It's free nonetheless, and you can get it here: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1220382/jira-cloud-for-google-sheets-official?hosting=cloud&tab=overview
Another alternative (and full disclosure: I work here) is Visor. We're a Jira spreadsheet that has a two-way sync with Jira. It's similar to Google Sheets in that you can give people view/edit/comment access to the spreadsheet. However, we're designed to work with Jira; we support hierarchies, Jira custom fields, and dropdown selections. Also free to get started with: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1226209/visor-flexible-spreadsheet-for-jira-roadmapping-bulk-edits?hosting=cloud&tab=overview
Example of Jira spreadsheet in Visor:
I hope that helps!
Best wishes,
Becky @ Visor
