I've done a fair bit of reading in the documentation about Insight. My understanding is that the Discovery agent is only needed for devices that can't be reached during the normal scanning operations. What I can't determine, for sure, is how the Agent functions in its communication capacity.
Does the Agent call "home" to Insight or does it wait for a call to port 51337? The use case is endpoint computers that are being used from user's homes rather than on a Corp or Branch network.
If the endpoint is not on one of our trusted networks, will the data just sit until the endpoint is on our network?
Hi Matt,
In fact, Discovery agent is more indicated for machines that aren't always on the network, as laptops for example.
Once the agent is installed, Discovery will locally scan the machine and generate a file with the results.
When you trigger your Discovery server to look for the agents, it will connect through 51337 port of your devices and get the scan results.
