In the plan, I want that the epics move together

Hello,

I'm using the plan of Jira.

The stories move together with their epics on the plan.

However, when I put dependencies between different epics, these epics move separately on the plan, and I would like them to move together, as one will start just after the previous one is finished.

Many thanks.

Hi @Mathieu BOSSCHAERT and welcome to the Community!

I am not sure if I understand your question correctly. Just assuming here that you want to move the start date of a dependent epic when the end date of a preceding one is updated?

If that's the case, let me try to explain how the scheduling in advanced roadmaps behaves. The tool can automatically visualise a schedule, but does so by rolling up the planned dates, progress, ... from lowel level issues to their parents. If you have an epic with 2 child stories, both scheduled to start today, one with a due date tomorrow and one with a due date on Next Monday, the parent epic will automatically be scheduled to run from today to next Monday.

That is the case until you manually set start and end dates for the epic as well. As soon as you do that, the plan will no longer automatically update the dates for the epic, but instead display a warning when the scheduling of the child issues becomes inconsistent with the parent.

I do understand why you would want to add the dates to your parent epics explicitly. But that means that you should either resolve the warnings in your plan by manually adjusting the timelines for linked issues (the UI does support you quite well to do it that way) OR create automation rules to update the start and due dates of dependent issues to do the automated scheduling for you.

Hope this helps!
