Hi @abeera_iqbal,

Tempo uses a weekly or monthly timesheet cycle behind the scenes with corresponding approval. These cycles are called periods. When a period ends, users are expected to submit their timesheet for approval. Both timesheets and periods can be closed, thus locking the hours logged in them. If your timesheet is not submitted or approved, then it is very likely that you are trying to log hours on a period that is closed.

In that case, a Jira or Tempo administrator will have to unlock that period again. You'll have to reach out to your organisation's Jira admins to do so.

Hope this helps!

What your manager says is just what he/she thinks it is. I would not assume he/she has full knowledge about the way Tempo configuration works. The only conclusion I would draw from that statement is that he/she does not see anything wrong.

I am not working for Atlassian, not Tempo and can't access your site, so I can only tell you possible causes and steps you could take to come to the proper conclusion. So, the things below may help you find out what's wrong:

  • when you look at your own timesheet, check the status near the top right of your screen. Expanding the dropdown at current period will display your current timesheet's status. If it says Open, then that is not the issue.
  • It is not necessarily because you are looking at the current period in your current timesheet that you are actually logging work in that period. This is determined by the date you fill out in the log time screen. If you select an older date there, you can still end up in an older period, even if that is not being displayed on your screen. So, make sure this is not the case.
  • It is not because a period is current that it can't be closed. Periods are managed in Tempo settings > Periods > Period Management. A Tempo administrator can - on purpose or by accident - set a period to closed. Unless your manager is also a Tempo/Jira administrator, he/she won't even have access to this part of the configuration, so won't be able to tell you if this is happening.

The first 2 are things you should be able to check yourself. For the last one, you need a Jira/Tempo administrator.

Finally - but given the error message not very likely - logging time against Jira issues can be restricted in many ways too. But I would focus on the options above first.
