When I create Jira issues, I attach multiple Outlook emails as comments, one by one. I ensure that I include the header text fields such as "From:", "Sent:", "To:", etc., along with the emails. As far as I know, issue comments can only be displayed in the order they were added, either ascending or descending. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be a way to insert a missed email into the middle of the comment trail. The missed email can only be appended to the end of the trail.
The objective is for another viewer of the issue to be able to read the emails in strict chronological order to better understand the problem.
I hope for a feature or script that could arrange comments from an issue based on the date and time indicated in the "Sent:" line. This would allow for a more organized and chronological presentation of the email trail.
Hello @George.Leslie
The custom sorting option that you describe is not available with native functionality. I don't know if there is a third party app that would allow you to pull a sorting element from the Comment body.
If you can coordinate with a Jira Administrator it is actually possible to import Comments to an issue and specify the date and time of the Comment creation. That option is available only to Jira Admins, though, using the External System Import option. You can see the format for the data here.
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
