I want to edit values on a form attached to a board, how do I edit the dropdown values/choices?

Cody Jeziorski September 20, 2024

Hello, I feel like I may be missing something but I simply want to edit the values I set for a dropdown on a form. When I go to the editor there is no way to edit the fields on my form. I simply want to add more options below the current ones we currently have. A good example of this would be having a severity field with High, Medium, Low. I want to add a Very Low option to that dropdown, how do I do that?

Hello @Cody Jeziorski

To what type of project are you applying the Form? Get that information from the Type column on the View All Projects page under the Projects menu.

Can you provide a screen image of the screen where you are trying to edit the form?

Hello Trudy,

The project type is Team-managed business.

I will attach the screenshot in the next reply.

I want to be able to add more option to this dropdown but cant find an area to edit the current values or add more.

Is the field on the Form linked to a Jira field?

When you edit the form (from Project Settings / Forms) and click on the field a panel on the right side will display for form field's configuration. There you can see if it is linked to a Jira issue field.

If it is not, then in that same panel you can update the field options.

If it is linked to a Jira issue field, then you will need to edit the options in the Jira issue field itself.

If the field was created as a custom field locally in the Team Managed project then you can edit the options for the field by navigating to Project Settings / Request Types. Select the Request Type that includes the field. in the center panel you will see the fields associated with the selected Request Type. Find the field in that panel. Click on the ">" button to the right of the field to expand the field configuration and add options to the field.

If you added the field by selecting a Globally defined custom field, then the options can't be edited within the project. Instead only a Jira Administrator can edit the available options, and they would do that from Administration / Issues / Custom Fields.

Good morning,

Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for. In the Project settings / Issue Types settings area I can edit the values for the questions I've created.

Thank you for your time! I think I'm good now.
