I need to add a column to my simplified board, how do I assign a status?

Luke Reed May 2, 2018

I have added a column and placed it in the workflow where I want. However, I have a message that says it will not appear until I have added a status. The Help page says a status will automatically be created. That is not happening.

I have separately created a status, but am unable to apply that to my new column.

What is the name of the status that you created that should appear in the Ice Box Column? Does that Status exist in the workflow for the project the board is related to? Do you have a screenshot of your Column Management screen?

I names the status "Ice Box" to correspond to the column. Screenshot attached.

Thanks for the screenshot. The status "Ice Box" is that a current status in the workflow for the projects that show up in this Board?

To be honest, I have no idea. i thought it would be simple to create a new column so we can organize tickets that we will need to come back to later. I have spent about 3 hours now trying to figure it out.

For a column to populate any tickets it has to have a status associated with it. In this instance you created the Column "Ice Box" which in your screenshot and you have noted it states that it will not show unless a status is associated with it. So if you did create a status "Ice Box" but that status wasn't added as part of the workflow you would not see any issues or the column. You will need to update the workflow for that board's project to include the newly created status Ice Box. Once you do that you should then be able to map that status to the Ice Box column.

Are you the project administrator of the project? Based on your screenshot looks quite difficult to say that you were able to edited at least one time this workflow..
If you are a project administrator, check if the `Extended project administration` permission is enabled.
If you really edited the workflow, make sure that the changes were published

I agree with @Bryan Trummer - ReleaseTEAM, if you go to workflow options and add this to the current workflow, you will certainly be able to see it on the board options.

Associating the new status with the workflow is vital to seeing it within that project.

Unfortunately I am unable to assign the status to the column. I've added it to the workflow as described at the link, then published. IU am still unable to assign the status to the column.

Does only one projects issues show up in this board (SKS)? Or do other projects issues show up in the board as well?

Luke Reed May 2, 2018

The default columns appear on the board when I look at all the issues.

There is only one project being managed in this account at this time.

Luke Reed May 2, 2018

I got it! Thank you for your help.

It sounds a bit weird, to be sincere.

Are you not able to see the new status on the "Unmapped Statuses" area?

Luke Reed May 2, 2018

No, I cannot see the new status. I am trying to create an Ice Box column. When I am in Column Management, I see my new column: Ice Box.

Ice Box has a message that says "This column will not show on the board without a status"

There is an "Unmapped" column, but that column is empty.

My columns are:

Ice Box

To Do

In Progress

Done

Unmapped
