I need to restore a sprint backlog column that had cards in the column, which appears they are lost now as they did not move to the main backlog as I thought they would. How can I restore these cards?
Also, new cards are not populating now in the main backlog.

What do you mean by "main backlog"?
Backlogs are a facet of a board, and boards are a view of a set of issues, not a container. Whatever you have done to configure the board the backlog belongs to, it will not have done anything to the issues. Unless you've edited the issues so that they no longer appear on the board.
My guess is that you have reconfigured a board so that issues do not show on it. Check that the board filter still includes the issues that have disappeared, and then look at the board configuration - are all the status mapped into columns? You may even have removed the "backlog" column entirely. In both of these cases, there's no damage to the issues, they'll reappear when you reconfigure it.
I cannot guess at what your "main backlog" is as there's no function for that in Jira, but hopefully fixing the board filter or column mappings will fix that too.
Hi @Catherine.Cooper1 -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
It may be the status values for those missing issues is not mapped to any board column or the backlog. Would you please post an image of your column mapping from:
... menu at top right of board > Configure Board > Columns
That will show the mapping and issue counts for each status.
Kind regards,
Bill
