Although in my zendesk parameters, I can thick the field EPIC link from a dropdown list, but nothing changes after I thicked it, I still have the 5 same fields in my JIRA issue (from zendesk): name, description, project...
I think this is the "dedicated" user that the instructions suggest you create specifically for this integration. Thus, if you are not using a dedicated user you probably just need to ensure the user you are using has the right permissions and is in the right groups.
