Hi,
I have decided to login to my project after about 2 years but I am unable to do it. It says URL is not available. Why?
Atlassian deactivate sites after a period of inactivity, usually after 90 days, and then the data is retained for another 60 days before the site is deleted. So that is why you after 2 years cannot access your site. Have a look at this KB for more information.
Hi Sanaz,
Welcome back! It can be quite a shock to see a "URL not available" message when trying to access your old work.
Since it has been about 2 years since your last login, here are the most likely reasons why the link is no longer working:
1. The "Inactivity" Deactivation (Most Likely)
For Free Trello and Jira accounts, Atlassian has a policy where sites that are completely inactive for more than 120 days (about 4 months) can be deactivated to save server space. Usually, several warning emails are sent to the administrator before this happens. If 2 years have passed without a login, the site has likely been deleted from the active servers.
2. Workspace Deletion
If the project was part of a Workspace (Team) and you were not the only admin, another member might have deleted the workspace or closed the boards during your absence.
3. Account Migration
In the last 2 years, Trello and Jira have fully migrated to Atlassian IDs. If you are logging in with a different email or if your old account wasn't migrated, you might be looking at a "fresh" empty account instead of your old one.
Steps you can take right now:
Check your Email History: Search your inbox (and spam/archive) for the word "Atlassian" or "Trello". Look for emails mentioned "Your site will be deactivated" or "Action required." This will confirm if the site was officially closed.
The "Account Profile" Check: Go to id.atlassian.com and log in. Click on "Products." If your old project site is still linked to your email, it will show up in this list. If the list is empty, the site no longer exists under that email address.
Try to find a Card Link: If you have an old email notification about a specific task/card, click that direct link. If it says "404 Not Found," the board has been deleted. If it says "Unauthorized," the board exists but your access was removed.
One important note: If a Free site was deleted due to 2 years of inactivity, it is unfortunately usually impossible to recover the data as it is purged from the backup servers after a certain period.
Were you the primary administrator of this project, or was it shared with a team? This might help us determine if someone else might still have a copy!
