I am new to BigGannt and need help understanding how it works.

For example, I imported an existing Jira Project which seemed to work fine, but all the start and end dates for all 5000 tasks are shown as today (2/2) for both the start and end date. How does BigGannt get the start and end dates from Jira?

Also, when I did the import, the system named the project "New Agile Project". Can I change that name?

Thanks

@Steven Berkowitz Welcome to the Atlassian community

You can get the information here about start and end dates and how they are configured.  You can check your configuration and then make adjustments to the issues after you decide how you will manage them.  https://wiki.bigpicture.one/display/DOCUMENTATION/Gantt+-+Task+Start+and+End+dates

To change the project name you need to be on the home page of BigGantt.  Scroll through the list of projects / programs and find the one you would like to change.  On the right-hand side there should be three dots as you hover over the project.  Click the dots and then click edit.    You can then edit and save the name.

I was able to reset the project name and I have discovered some of the basic configuration functions, but I have not been able to find the Task Start and End Date configuration options referred to in the wiki. When I open the config page for Tasks/Scheduling I see the drop-down for "Task Mode" (bottom-up, etc.) but I do not see the detailed options. I need to understand which exact values in Jira are being referenced from BigGaant to populate Start/End. Or, is my BG project not referencing Jira for those dates?

Additionally, when I imported the project into BigGannt, it pulled the entire project (about 5000 Jira issues) into the BG project. I don't need or want all that data in BG. I have tried to use the "Scope" config to reduce the amount of data in the BG project but something is not updating. When I look at the home page it seems to show my reduced scope as applied, but when I open the BG project it still shows all 5000+ JIra items. Any help with that would be appreciated.

Thanks

@Steven Berkowitz The start and end date will be at the overall level and you need to be a Jira admin to access it.  You can limit the number of issues by defining the scope of the project https://wiki.bigpicture.one/display/DOCUMENTATION/Program+Configuration+-+General+-+Scope+definition

If you want to bring everything in you can create quick filters to limit what you see. https://wiki.bigpicture.one/display/DOCUMENTATION/Program+Configuration+-+General+-+Quick+filters

I would suggest spending sometime in the documentation to learn more about the products functionality.

Hi Brant,

Maybe I wasn't clear: I am saying that, after I imported the whole project from Jira, I then defined the scope definition to include only one specific release. After that was done, when I am on the home page, I see that the new scope is defined, but when I open the BG project, all 5000+ items are still there. Is there some sort of data sync I need to do so that only the 100 or so items that are in the scope definition show up in the BG Gaant view?

Regarding start and end dates, I am not sure what you mean by "at the overall level" unless you mean that I do not have the permissions in BigGannt to control how BigGannt defines start and end dates. I am trying to answer this question - What do I need to do in Jira and/or BigGaant so that start and end date data displays in BG instead of showing 5000 items beginning and ending on February 2nd 2023.

Thanks

@Steven Berkowitz Are you a Jira Administrator on the instance with BigGantt?

Your will need to work with your admin to make the changes discussed above.
