How would you go to making an inventory system in JIRA service management?

Juan Arana July 14, 2022

So I want to move some data that I have in an excel spreadsheet that is currently used to track inventory items. How or what would be the best method to do so.

Hello @Juan Arana , and welcome to the Community!

You have a couple options.

The first option (and one that I recommend) is to use Insight for Jira Service Management. Insight (soon to be renamed to 'Assets') is included in the premium plan. You can store a number of assets here through an object based schema that is completely configurable. There is a nice integration with Jira Service Management which allows customers to select assets that they own. You could set something up where customers can use JSM to check out inventory that is available.

Another option is to choose an inventory app in the marketplace. You can get a lot of the same functionality, but it may not be as intuitive a setup and the integration with Jira may look different, but it's still an option.

Hope this helps

Thank you it does. Is there an easy way to transfer data into an excel sheet?

Hello @Juan Arana

You can import CSV files into Insight - here's a link that has more information.

You are also able to export data from Insight - here's a link that has more information.

The CSV imports/exports are straightforward, and you can open CSV files in Excel for further manipulation!
