How to split workflow for different issue types in team-managed project?

I'm seeing some conflicting information on the web and I'm a bit confused.

I have some team managed projects in my business area, and I'm struggling to configure workflows. 

My current issue is that I have a huge workflow that is set for all my 3 issue types (Epic, Task and Sub-task), but whenever I try to edit any of these issue types' workflow, Jira brings me the default workflow and, when saving, it doesn't allow me to save the workflow for an individual issue type. 

I've seen some documentation stating that saving individual workflows should be possible for team-managed projects, but when I try to do so, Jira won't allow:

Currently it is not possible to have different workflows per issue type in the Team Managed project. You can comment on and vote for that change here:
