Hello,
I always create a "component" field in each Jira project.
I'd like to share this component with the Jira Management Services projects as well.
Actually, there is no link between them, I've to create them on both sides.
How to do it ?
Thank you
welcome to the community!
Components generally exist per project, so there's no easy way to share them across projects.
Depending on your exact requirements, you could consider creating your own, cross-project custom field - e.g. of type Select - and use this custom field instead of the built-in component field. Just be aware that any component-specific views and features in Jira would then no longer work.
Alternatively, if you are open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, you'll find apps that offer some level of support for working with components across projects. I'll add more information below.
Hope this helps,
Best,
Hannes
Just to expand on the last point: If you're open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, you may want to have a look at the app that my team and I are working on, JXL for Jira.
JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your issues that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields, much like you’d do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. It also comes with a long list of advanced features, including support for cross-project issue grouping by any issue field(s), like so:
In the above example, there's a component "Core engine" in project WORK and another component "Core engine" in project JSWC, and because they have the exact same name, the respective issues are grouped together. Issue grouping can also be combined with JXL's other advanced features, including support for configurable issue hierarchies, sum-ups, or or conditional formatting.
Any questions just let me know!
