How to set start-date in Agile Gadget

Using plain-vanilla enterprise JIRA 6.5, how do you set the "start date" in the Agile Gadget, or in the "Agile" view of a version in a project?  I've set the start date in the version, but it doesn't show up.   The "Hours" burndown chart always seems to start the day before today, regardless of when the time estimates for the tickets were set.

Is this a bug in our installation?  How can I discover this?

Answering myself:

From the agile gadget, click on the chart icon.

In classic view, the "start date" in the card should be editable.
