How to set initial velocity

Hi

I would like to use the Jira 'Version Report' to predict the release date for a specific version, but since I don't have a velocity (we just moved to using Story points, but it could also be because it is a new team) I was wondering if it is somehow possible to set an initial velocity as a starting point? Or is there any other suggestions/experiences on how to handle this in Jira?

Hello Steven,

This is not something that can be modified in the velocity chart, the chart requires completed sprints to be able to populate the data from the historical data, and cannot be preemptively configured.

Alternatively, you can create a team and set a velocity setting for that team using  Portfolio for jira as covered here:

But While you can set the initial level the Forecasting is still going to look at the historical data, and would take a few sprints to start getting a clear forecast.
