How to set a minimum/fixed column width on Kanban board to enable horizontal scrolling?

Hello community,

I have a Kanban board with many columns (12+). Currently, Jira tries to fit all columns on the screen, making them very narrow and hard to read.

What I want: set a fixed/minimum width for each column, so only ~5 columns are visible at a time and the user navigates through the rest using the horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of the board.

Current behavior: all columns shrink to fit the screen width, making card text barely readable.

Expected behavior: columns maintain a readable fixed width, and the board becomes horizontally scrollable.

Is there any native Jira setting for this? Or is a CSS workaround (via ScriptRunner or similar app) the only option?

Thanks!

Hello @Gabriel do Carmo Sousa

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

Unfortunately there is not a native option for configuring the width of columns on a board. There is a change request about this to which you can add your vote:

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-75914

I have not found any suggestions for a work around that can applied to the native Jira Cloud board display.

You may want to consider

- combining status into shared columns to reduce the number of columns shown on the board
- creating separate boards (if you are using Kanban) where each board shows only a subset of the columns.
- looking for a third party app that allows you to customize a board view
