Hello!
I'm a product manager new to Jira. Right now we have a series of projects each with a board. These projects represent company initiatives (Product 1, Product 2, Mobile, etc).
While we have a well defined development process which starts with story creation, the development teams would like to see further up the pipeline of product management and I'd like to make this information open to them.
Currently, Product goes though a process of defining the user problems we want to prioritize (Risk/Value/Cost evaluation), market validation, Go/No-Go decision making, and then finally ready for a project kickoff by our x person engineering team.
My initial thinking was to keep this entire flow in one project by creating two boards. One board for product work and another for development work. The only weird thing is that when I create stories for problem statement development (often epics though) I have to create them in the backlog FIRST and then MOVE them to problem statement.
It would be great to instead choose their location when creating stories but looking at workflow, I don't think I can do this. My concern is that my Cumulative flow diagram will be wonky because issues are moving backwards upon creation.
My other idea is to make the backlog the first step of the product workflow, but we really like using the backlog view when prioritizing development work.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this practice and generally how to combine product + development workflows effectively to create team visibility?
