How to open issues on a dashboard in a modal or side bar?

I've created a dashboard with multiple filter result gadgets. When clicking on an issue from the dashboard I want it to pop open in the side bar or as a modal (the same behaviour as clicking on a ticket on a kanban/sprint board). Currently when clicking on an issue, it opens in the same window which forces me to click the back button to get back to the dashboard and loses my scroll/page position. I know it is possible to open issues in a new tab, but it's not desirable for my circumstance.

Hi @Naomi R -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

I suspect the answer is "no, that is not possible".

The built-in dashboards and gadgets have not be updated for many, many years, and their default behavior is how you described it.  And it appears unlikely to change with the push toward using Confluence instead of dashboards.

With some marketplace dashboard gadgets, they open issues/lists in another browser tab.  Even those probably cannot alter the built-in behavior enough to use a pop-out/expanse section.

Kind regards,
Bill
