My customer is using Jira server and they have multiple projects created in it (around 35 projects). Each project has its own configuration in terms of custom fields, workflows, groups etc. As part of consolidation exercise, customer wants to move to Jira cloud and want to streamline all this clutter into uniform project structure where there will set of defined fields, common workflow.
I explored Jira Cloud Migration Assistant and Project configurator AddOn but couldnt find any facility where I can map the fields from source project to desired template in cloud.
While I am migrating the data from server to cloud I want all ticket history migrated seamlessly along with attachments.
The overall idea is that I will create a new desired project structure template and then apply the same to other projects. While doing this there may be some loss of data like discarding unwanted custom fields, or mapping exercise to map x field from old project to a new field in new structure.
Can you suggest best approach to achieve this?
Hi @Jayant, it's great that your customer wants to streamline their configuration!
I believe the Configuration Manager for Jira app can do what you're after. It's available now for Server and Data Center and it's coming soon for Cloud. See it here: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1211611/configuration-manager-for-jira?hosting=server&tab=overview
For example, if there's source application field called “Team Impacted” this app can map its data to the target application field called “Team”. You shouldn't experience any data loss (except ditching custom fields/schemes/etc that you no longer want).
I wrote about this in my new book, The Ultimate Guide to Jira Migrations: How to migrate from Jira Server to Data Center or Cloud. Download it (free) from the Botron website.
If you can't wait for the Cloud version of this app, another idea is to create the configuration you want in Server and migrate it (without changing/transforming any configuration elements) directly to Cloud.
Hope this helps and good luck with your migration!
