Nitesh Shah June 30, 2025

Hello,

We have the free JIRA plan for 10 users, and since our requirements are limited, this version should be sufficient for us.

I am not getting test case work type option and i assume i have to create work type as 'Test Cases'

can someone please help me how i can import test cases in JIRA, do i need to install plugin ?

Hi! Jira doesn’t come with a built-in Test Case work type, but you can create your own.

Official guide

Here’s how to create a custom work type for test cases:

  1. Go to Settings > Work items
  2. In the left menu, go to Work types > Add work type
  3. Name it Test Case (and optionally add a description)
  4. Choose Standard as the type (this lets you create it as a top-level issue)
  5. Click Add

After that, your Test Case work type will show up when creating issues in projects that use the selected scheme.

If you need more advanced test management features like test steps or traceability, check out Atlassian Marketplace apps like this one: Xray Test Management

Hope this helps!
