How to identify which screen is the default Issue Create screen

Robert Edyvean November 4, 2020

I've added a couple of custom fields to my project (I successfully added others to my default Service Desk project create screen) but I'm not seeing them on our Jira Software project create screen list when I try to configure the screen. I've tried adding the fields to ALL the screens with the appropriate project prefix, but to no avail, How can I determine definitively what the default project issue create screen is?

Hi @Robert Edyvean you need to go to project settings -> Screens and check your Create issue screen(s) here. There can be more screens for every issue type used in the selected project.

Thanks - but I don't get any "Screens" option from Project settings (unless I select "Settings" as opposed to "Project Settings" and then "Issues".  Then I just get a list of screens and screen schemes and I'm none the wiser...?

Ehm, you're in next-gen project :). Sorry I didn't realize it. The configuration of fields in next-gen project is different (you can get more information on https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/available-custom-fields-for-next-gen-projects/).

But in your case you have to go to Issue Types and than you can configure screen for the issue types separately. But you are adding fields only in the context of THIS ONE project.

Thanks Martin. This is very frustrating - half the solutions I'm given to questions aren't appropriate because we're using the cloud version as opposed to the server version, this time because we're using a next-gen project Jira seems to work differently as well.

When I go to Issue Types and then configure and Issue Type scheme, the only option  I have is to set the default Issue Type, or add new Issue Types to the scheme. Nothing about adding custom fields I have defined. All I want to do is find out which screen is being used by Create and Edit issue, so that I can modify them to add my custom fields....?

Ah sorry I see what you mean - I needed to go to Issue Types from Project Settings rather than the Issue Types from Settings. I see that I can indeed add fields into screens for each issue type, but I don't seem to be able to add custom fields which I have defined globally... and only a limited set of types (eg no radio button types)?

OK I was able to use drop downs so all good. Thanks for your help!
