How to get the remaining hrs of a task in the "log hours" popup to align w/ hrs in the Estimate

In this case someone has put in an original estimate of 30000 hours for a task and now every time a person goes to log hours into the task they see something short of 30k hours, like 29913 hours or something.  Then when you go into the task and add an estimate of 4 weeks, it has no effect on the "Remaining estimate*" that is found in the log work dialog box.

Any thoughts?
