How to enable JIRA Roadmap when there is not a features section in your project settings?

I created a new project but wanted to use the custom workflows from a previous project.  This seems to disable the roadmap feature?

I figured it out - apparently when creating any project including next gen you have the option of copying an existing project's configuration.  In doing so, that is what caused the project to not have it's next-gen "skin" and lacked the roadmap features.

Just use the out-of-the box next-gen project for better or worse

The roadmap feature is available only for next-gen projects. You can not set a custom workflow for such projects.
