When creating a delivery link from an idea in Jira Product Discovery, if the issue type is a subtask, there's currently no option to select which parent issue (workstream) it should be created under. The subtask gets created as an orphan, requiring manual re-parenting in the delivery project.
The delivery creation flow should allow selecting a parent issue when the chosen issue type supports hierarchy, so the subtask is placed in the correct workstream from the start.
When creating a delivery issue from an idea in Jira Product Discovery, users can choose the delivery project and issue type. However, if the selected issue type is a subtask, there is currently no option to select the parent issue/workstream during creation.
As a result, the subtask is created without being associated with the intended parent issue and must be manually re-parented afterward in the delivery project.
For teams that organize delivery work under workstreams, epics, or parent tasks, this creates additional manual effort and can lead to delivery items being misplaced or overlooked.
It would be helpful if the delivery creation flow could detect when the selected issue type supports hierarchy and display a "Parent Issue" field. This would allow users to select the appropriate workstream or parent task during creation, ensuring the subtask is correctly placed from the start.
Has anyone else encountered this limitation? How are you currently managing delivery subtasks created from Jira Product Discovery ideas?
