How to change the role/department to Development in order to get the same view the rest of the team?

Franziska Mieland December 20, 2024

Hi there,

is somebody able to explain to me why I get a different view in Jira than all the other team members? In most projects, I cannot see the timeline, but just issues. Also the "home" section looks totally different.

The only explanation that I see here is that I pressed another button of department when setting up Jira, so I pressed "Marketing" instead of "Development" like the others. Does someone know how I can change this or get the exact same view on the projects that the others have?

Thanks so much, I tried now for more than 30 minutes to find anything..

@Franziska Mieland I think a screenshot of what you're seeing and your colleagues are seeing would be very helpful in determining what's missing. It could just be a different view, or, like you said, something could be configured or licensed differently. Without seeing the difference it's very hard to say for sure.

Hi @Mathew Lederman , thanks also for your quick answer. Great idea with the screenshot. So I have several different "problems" with different views, but the most important for now is in the picture below. For 2 of my software projects I can only see "goals" and "issues" and some other views, but no "timeline" for example. There is no possibility to add the "timeline" view anywhere. For other projects I have a total different "PLANNING" view, that is not focused on the "issues" so much. Do you have any idea how to change that? Is it possibly a setting of my colleagues to change my "admin rights" or similar to the project? If so, would you be able to say how? Thanks so much in advance!Screenshot 2025-01-14 090100.png

@Franziska Mieland I believe what you're looking for can be found under Project Settings > Features. It sounds like these items are simply disabled for the project. If you cannot turn on the Timeline feature, it will likely give you an error of "To enable or disable the timeline for a board, visit your board settings."  For this, go to one of your projects' boards, then click the three dots in the upper right then Configure Board. At the bottom of the menu on the left should be 'Timeline' which should have a simple 'Enable Timeline' toggle.

Hi @Franziska Mieland ,

Can you view business projects and you're missing some features in software projects? Also, are you by any chance an agent (Jira Service Management).

Potentially, you have Jira Work Management (product about to be retired & merged with Jira) or some other Jira license instead of Jira (ex. Software). Software items such as boards, backlogs... are only visible to Jira licensed users but if you have other license type, you could still navigate to project (if permissions allow) and see issues within those.

You could reach out to your User access or Org admin to check assigned license in user directory.

Cheers,
Tobi

Hi @Tomislav Tobijas , thank you so much for taking the time to answer me. I'm not an agent and do not use Jira Service Management as far as I see. Also, I am quite sure I've got the same product as the others. Different is only the overall starting page and the views. So what I found out for example, is that I cannot see the "timeline" and "list" in some of the software projects. I on the contrary see "goals", which goes hand in hand with the issue that I only see "issues", and not the whole project. For other software projects that I created I have the option of choosing several different views like forms, timeline, backlog and no "goals". We tried to see differences in the settings with other colleagues, but couldn't find any so far.

Best, Franziska

Hi @Franziska Mieland ,

'Interesting' issue. I would suggest checking what @Mathew Lederman said - Project settings > Features to see if those features are enabled/disabled. However, this configuration is on project-level so it would affect everyone.

As for Goals and Atlassian Home, the site you're using might be rolled in new Platform Experiences so this might have made a difference in the UI.

I would suggest reaching out to Atlassian Support as they would be able to access your site and log in as specific users to debug the problem furthermore.

Cheers,
Tobi
