How to change project lead who is no longer available with us.

I assume you are using Jira server. You should go to your Project > Users and Roles > Edit defaults. That opens a popup and show two fields - Project Lead (which is required field) and Default Assignee. Simply change the assignee to a new person.

Hello -

Go to your Projects > "ProjectName" > Project Settings > Users and roles > Edit defaults and now you should be able to change the Project Lead to the new user.
