How to change password if you signed in with regular google account?

Юрий Кочетков January 24, 2019

It was similar question, but I have different details

I signed in with regular google account (not G Suit) and now I need to share password with my boss, but I can't change the password, because I have to know current. Current password for google account doesn't work.

What should I do now? Is it any way to reset the password?

Here's what I did

  1. attempted to connect JIRA to Slack.
  2. when I got JIRA login screen, I clicked "can't login"
  3. followed instructions to reset password

I think it would also work if you open an incognito window, or a different browser

Hello @Юрий Кочетков and welcome to Atlassian Community!

The best option, in this case, is to ask for a Jira administrator to send you a Reset password email, they can do this by accessing your profile and click "Prompt reset password" and then when you receive the email you will click on the link and you will be redirected to this page to create a new password that does not require the current one:

Hope this helps!

Could you be more specific about where I can  find "Prompt reset password"?

I didn't manage to find it in my profile2019-01-29_14-22-58.png

Hi @Юрий Кочетков,

Only a site-administrator can reset a password.
They must go to Screenshot 2019-01-29_16-10-01.png > Site administration > Open your profile and reset the password. After that, you will receive an email to create a new one.

Thank you I've found it now, but I've got another issiue

You do not have enough privileges to prompt this user to reset their password.

Hi @Юрий Кочетков,

Site-admins can't reset the password for other site-admins.
I saw that you are the only site-admin from the instance, in this case, the workaround is to create a test account and give admin privileges, so this new user can remove you from the group site-admins and reset your password and add you back to the group. Or you can also ask another user to do that, but you will have to add them to the site-admin group.

Angélica

Hi, @Angélica Luz  I'm facing this same issue and I tried making another account and removing site admin privileges on the original account as suggested, but it still doesn't allow me to "prompt reset password" on the original account's user because it says that "This user must accept your invite to access this site first". However, the invite email never seems to send no matter how I try, and so effectively, it's impossible and the entire workflow is broken.

This is blocking me from using git to push to a bitbucket repo, since the git account has an email but no password, when I'm asked for a password on `git push`, there's no password for me to enter and successfully push.
