I have a use case wherein I need to be able to communication back and forth via Jira work items between internal Jira users and external customer via email channels.
I do NOT want to use Jira Service Management as the per agent licensing is extremely expensive and not worth it for this application only.
I am open to native Jira functionality + automation or Marketplace apps that can do this out-of-the-box.
To clarify, I want to be able to make a comment in a Jira ticket and have that comment and link to the Jira work item be sent to the customer, then have them reply to that email and it becomes another comment in the Jira work item. I also need the customer to be able to add attachments to any reply email and have that in turn attach to the work item

Are you willing to give the "customer" a license to access your Jira application?
One might infer from your post that you are not willing to do that, but I wanted to ask for clarity on that point.
