How to automatically move multiple project issues to next sprint?

We use multiple boards to track initiatives across multiple teams (team A and B) against the same sprint (same 2 week time block).

  • Project A Board, team A only
  • Project B Board, team B only
  • Project C Board (subset of Team A and Team B tickets only)

In Project A, when I closed the sprint and chose to roll over unfinished items to the next sprint it worked fine.

Project B tickets did not roll over and were moved to the backlog.

Is there a better way to manage multiple projects/boards using the same sprint so all tickets can be rolled over easily?

You will need to make a Scrum board that encompasses the filters of both the Project A board and the Project B board completely, and create/close the sprints in that board. When you then close the shared sprints from that board you will be able to move all the incomplete issues in both projects to the next shared sprint.

If you close the sprint in a board that does not encompass all the issues in both boards, then only the subset of incomplete issues that are seen in that board can be moved to the next sprint.

Hi, I currently have one scrum board but multiple projects share a sprint. How do you make a scrum board that encompasses Projects A, B, and C? That way when we closed out the main scrum board all project board follows.

Hello @Emily Le

In the future, please start a new Question rather than posting on a Question that is many months old. If another old post has relevant information, then include a link to it in your new post.

If you are working with Company Managed projects you can

  1. go to the View All Boards page
    https://<yourURL>/jira/boards?contains=
  2. click the Create Board button
  3. Select Scrum as the board type
  4. Select the option for Board from an existing Project, and click Next.
  5. Select all the projects you want to include in the Projects field.

  6. Add a Board Name and pick a Project as the Location where you want the board to display, then click Create Board.

Thank you so much for the detailed instructions. That helps a lot. I will make a note to create a new post with links to the previous post.
