Jira Cloud: I know this topic was already started  in the past... however I cannot find a simple way to reach this goal.

Mixed up with screen, screen scheme, issue type, issue type screen, issue type scheme, issue type screen scheme...

Looking for help and/or a quick manipulation guideline would help a lot to achieve this:

MyStory must have field A, B,C.

MyStory has subtasks MyDev and MyDoc.

MyDev and MyDoc must have field D,E,F.

Whatever I tried, MyDev and MyDoc still gets field A,B,C when I look at them inside the project.

Thanks.

Hi @Jean Michel Boulet

Instructions to achieve this below:

  • Create a screen for each issue type, so you'll have a screen for MyStory and a screen for MyDev and MyDoc
  • Create a screen scheme for each screen - so again, you'll have a screen scheme for MyStory's screen and a screen scheme for MyDev and MyDoc

Create an Issue Type Screen Scheme to house both of these screen schemes - then:

  • Edit the "Default" to whichever screen is your master, used by all unmapped issue types. For ease, lets make it MyStory
  • In the upper-right, press the button "Associate an issue type with a screen scheme"
  • Select the issue type "Sub Task" and the appropriate screen scheme for MyDev and MyDoc

^ This should do the trick. Note this is assuming you're using a Classic project / view - it's slightly different for Next-Gen / New User View. As you're mentioning screen schemes, etc I assume you will be using a classic project. For the new user view:

  • You'll still need the above mapping - to split sub-tasks from other issue types in your screen view then...
  • Go to your Project > Project Settings > Issue Layout
  • Select Edit Layout
  • From here, you can choose to reorder fields or hide fields (drag/drop) for specific issue type's screens. This view is consistent across Jira, unlike the classic view where you can have different screens for view, create and edit.

Thx Stephen. Yes I was using a Classic project.

This was the point I was missing: the MyStory issue type must have "subdefinition" to attach a specific screen to the subtask.

I initially created two Issue Type Screen Schemes: one for MyStory, one for both MyDev and MyDoc.

Great help from your side, bravissimo.
