I dont understand why JIRA is not giving the "Feature" issue type as default.

Anyway, I have created a custom issue type i.e. "Feature". Now I want to create my user stories under Feature not directly under the Epic as below:

Epic>>Feature>>User Story.

But I dont see such provision in JIRA and I can only assign user story under the Epic. This is not today's agile practice.

Can someone help please if there is a work around?

Hi @Rashid Ansari ,

Like @Jack Brickey and @Patricia Modispacher _appanvil_ mentioned, this is not something you can do easily out of the box (although they do mention a couple of good workarounds).

One other option could be to use an app like Structure: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/34717/structure-by-tempo-jira-portfolio-management-ppm?hosting=cloud&tab=overview which would give you the option to do what you want.

Cheers,
Peter

Hi @Rashid Ansari

you can try to configure the Jira Issue Link:

  • Go to your Jira project's settings.
  • Navigate to "Issue linking" or "Issue linking types" (the exact location may vary depending on your Jira version).
  • Create a new issue link type, such as "Relates to Feature."

Later:

  • In your Epic, use the "More" button or options menu and select "Link."
  • Choose the "Relates to Feature" link type and link it to your "Feature" issue.

Now, when you create User Stories, you can link them to the Epic, which indirectly links them to the "Feature" as well.

Hi @Rashid Ansari , welcome to the community.

In the free and standard versions of Jira, you only have 3 levels: epic, story/task, subtask. Premium provides additional levels. There are a number of posts in the Community discussing what others have done to create a Feature concept and I encourage you to search for those posts using the search bar above. With that said, here are a couple of ideas:

  • Use labels to label all issues associated to a specific feature
  • Use Epic as a means of defining a feature
  • Use component field
  • Use the Link feature. You could even create a "feature" linktype if desired
