How to add an administrator to Jira and Confluence

Matt Walker

Our lead engineer is the main admin for our Atlassian account, but I do most of the actual management of projects and content within Jira and Confluence. I'm finding myself running into access barriers that are making it difficult to carry out my duties - for example, I can no longer create Classic Template projects in Jira and am currently stuck with Agility, which is unacceptable for our current initiatives.

How exactly would one go about making a Jira or Confluence user into a full-powered administrator?

Get your existing administrator to add the new administrator(s) to the administration groups they are in.

You can see the groups by looking at "global permissions"

On Cloud, you will not get System Admin, only Jira/Confluence admin.

Matt,

If you're using cloud, you'd need to get in touch with atlassian support. IF you're using server, you'd need your MAIN admin to add you as one of the main admins.

There are some functions only the system admin in both JIRA and Confluence can accomplish that a regular admin can't.
