How to add a custom field

Mateusz Śnieżek December 28, 2023

Hi guys!

I would like to know how can I add a custom field, similar to the "0m" one. It needs to be visible in the crossed spot.

Thank you!

Hello @Mateusz Śnieżek

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

It appears that you are using a Team Managed project. At the bottom of the panel on the left it will say either "team-managed" or "company-managed". Which does it say?

If it is a Team Managed board, modifying which fields are displayed on the cards is not currently an option.

Regardless of whether the project is team-managed or company-managed, there is not currently a native option for a custom field type for time duration, which is the type of field you have indicated in your image. So you would not be able to create a custom field that operates natively in the same manner as the field you indicated.

Can you tell us about the problem you are trying to solve with that custom field? Perhaps we will be able to suggest an alternate solution.

Hi Trudy,

Thank you for your reply. It is indeed team managed board.

In short we wanted to display a priority of the issue at this field, to be more visible and accessible for our team.

Do you think we can achieve it in any other way?

Kind regards,

Mateusz

Hello Mateusz,

If the built-in Priority field contains a value for the issue, then the icon for the Priority will automatically display in the card.

You just need to assign a value to the field. Note that it needs to be the built-in Priority field, not a new custom field that you create that you name "Priority".

Hi Trudy,

Thank you for your reply.

Could you please assist me with a more detailed guide on how can I achieve it? If I assign a value to that field that you marked with an arrow, it will show for example "8"?

I'm new to all of that JIRA things, highly appreciated your help!

Kind regards,

Mateusz

Hello Mateusz,

In the issue I select a value in the Priority field and it shows both the text name of the priority and the icon.

In the cards only the Icon that will be displayed, not the value selected.

If you wanted to show a number in the card, you would have to make a custom icon image and associate it to one of the available Priority values.

The values and icons that are available for the built in Priority field are defined globally for Jira. Only a Jira Administrator can make changes to them. Information on that topic can be found here:
