How to access to a Jira issues by number using Jira API?

Hello peeps, I have surf through the internet but I haven't found any way to access jira issue by jira API providing the issue number, I have tried different ways but none of them worked so far...

You can access a jira issue by this issuekey if you want, what do you mean by this number?

rest/api/2/issue/(issuekey)
