How to: Restricted comments in the team-led project?

Leon Dedolf February 4, 2025

Hi, I work with my clients and colleagues at the same time using the template ‘Team led project’. Now I would like to make internal comments possible so that the customer cannot see everything we discuss. However, I don't want to switch to a company-led project, but stay with the team-led one. What options do I have? Thanks in advance!

Hi @Leon Dedolf , welcome to the community.

You mentioned customer here and internal comment. Is this a Jira or Jira Service Management project? For TMP projects the only way to restrict comments is to make the user viewer only.

Hi @Jack Brickey thank you for your feedback!

This is a team-led project in Jira. Does this mean that the customer is only a ‘viewer’ and can no longer actively participate in the project? We still need him to test, comment and create tasks. We just don't want him to be able to read all the comments in future.

@Jack Brickey Any idea?

Hi @Leon Dedolf , to be clear Jira does not have a concept of "customers". Jira Service Management does have the concept of Customers. Which project type are you using here? This info is found in the upper left under the project name.

if you were working with a service project then you have the ability to add internal comments and customer accessible comments. In JSM projects...

  • Agents can make/view internal and  customer comments
  • Collaborators can make internal comments and view both internal and customer comments
  • Customers can make/view public comments only

Hello @Jack Brickey, thank you again for your reply!
We use “Jira” and not the JSM - we have created a customer group with certain rights and then named it “Customer”.
What we are missing now is a setting that says something like “the following roles can access these comments” or “the following roles are excluded from these comments”.

But if I have understood you correctly, this is not possible in the version of Jira we are using.
