How do you get rid of an avatar in your backlog?

I have a few avatars of people that are no longer in my company and would like to remove them so that filtering would be more efficient. Any ideas?

if the avatars are associated w/ issues you need to reassign the issues. if they avatar is at the top then the users must not be "inactive".
