How do you delete duplicate Kanban Boards without deleting all the cards in your Project?

Our team currently has one Kanban board with tickets for two workstreams. We've now grown enough that there is a need to separate out the tickets into to Kanban board within the same Project.

We tried to create a new Kanban board, but that just created a duplicate with all the cards from the original board.

Is it possible to create a blank new Kanban Board and then assign the tickets to one of the two Kanban boards depending on the workstream? Also, we now have 3 clones of the same board, how can we go back to just one without losing any cards?

Hello @Sofia Aschettino

Welcome to the community.

Are you working with a Team Managed project or a Company Managed project? It will say which it is at the bottom of the navigation screen on the left.

Boards are just a way to visualize and manipulate issues that exist in projects. If you look at these three boards and see that the cards on them have the same issue IDs, you don't have duplicated cards/issues. You just have three boards referencing the same issues.

With a Company Managed project your board(s) are based on Saved Filters. The original board created with the project would've been based on a filter to select all issues in the project. The creator of that board is also the owner of the filter used by the board, and would be able to edit that filter to change the criteria to show a subset of issues on that board.

When you create additional boards you select if you want to create them based on an existing Project or Saved Filter. You can create additional filters separately to gather the other subsets of issues you want to display. Save each of these filters. You then create a board based on a Saved Filter (vs. based on an existing Project).

You don't have to create new boards at this point. You just need to create and save filters for the different subsets of issues you want to display. Then assign each of those filters to one of the boards you have created. That would be done through the Board Settings > General option for each board.

Hello @Sofia Aschettino ! Welcome to the Atlassian community!

So, the cards that appear on a project's Scrum and Kanban boards are based on a board. filter.  If you create a Kanban board based on the same filter, the content of the new board will be identical to the original board.

It sounds like you may need to add an additional condition based on your workstream.

Here's a reference to help you out.
