We use Jira standard - Cloud.
I'm using the timeline view and showing start and end dates for 'Releases' and for 'Tasks'. 'releases' have the green avatar in the image below. How do I change the colour of the bars?
The tasks are not under Epics and I don't show epics at all in the timeline. I know how to change Epic colours.
Please see the image below. As I was creating this today the 'Releases' were showing as Blue bars and then I started adding tasks and they showed Grey. That was fine, I'm not fussy on the colour, happy for the colour even to be per issuetype if needed. But now when I add a new 'Release', that is showing as Grey! (CRM-135 near the bottom) I cannot find the setting to control the colours. Please advise.
Colour is not customisable, but the colour does change depending on the status of the jira issue being shown in the timeline.
i.e Grey - not started, Blue - in progress, Green - done
Hi @Paul Treadwell ,
I'm afraid, you cannot assign a fixed bar color to a non-Epic issue in Timeline. If you want color control, you need to group work under Epics, since Epic colors are editable. Even if you're not using Epics for hierarchy, you could group tasks under placeholder Epics just for visual clarity.

Thank you for the response @David Friedrich
Do you know why I have some rows in Blue and some in Grey? (see image). If it was a fixed colour that would be good enough for me. An inconsistent colour seems odd.
I thought it was down to the different worktypes... but it is not.

I tried putting the issues under an Epic but the bar colours (apart from the epic) still stay the same either Grey or Blue. With no understandable reason why the colour changed when adding dates this week on the timeline from Blue bars on Monday to Grey bars from now on!!
And just in case anyone wondering. If I remove the dates from a 'blue bar' issue, then add the dates back in... the bar is created Blue.
