How do remove an assignee from a Jira event

I need to remove someone who has been assigned to a Jira event and cannot determine how to do that.

@Walt Pretko Please could you clarify what you mean by 'assigned to an event'?

If it's related to notifications that the user is receiving, you might want to check out the Notification Scheme for the project you are using, by default certain users will be subscribed to issue events
