We are new to Jira and by default it seems that you can set a start end date on each issue or EPIC which will work out the expected time for the task. We run projects where we estimate the duration for the task and just want to enter the expected duration in days or hours. Can Jira be configured to allow this?

Hello @mike potashnick

Thank you for reaching out.

You can use the Time tracking field to record the estimated time to complete an issue in hours and days, as you can see in the documentation below:

Configuring time tracking

Basically, this field display three pieces of information in your issue view:

Original Time Estimate: The initial estimation to complete the issue

Time Spent: This is the sum of the time logged to your issues

Remaining Estimate: This field displays the estimation of time left to complete your issue (Original time estimate - Time Spent)

P.S: There are a few differences in the way this field displays and works for Jira Classic and Next-gen.

Please, check the mentioned documentation to know how you can add this field to your project screens (Classic or Next-gen) and let us know if you have any specific questions.
