Is there a way to opt out of this "badges" thing on my profile? I don't want to participate and I don't want to see it. I'm a professional, not a girl scout.

No, you can't turn it off (yet).  But you can

  • Go to profile -> Manage Settings -> Notifications and turn off the emails about them
  • Ignore them

@Laura Nickelhoff Nic is correct, and here is the direct link to the spot in your profile where you can turn off the notifications.  For "Badges I earn" select "Never."

Hopefully this will make them less intrusive and easy for you to ignore.

Hi Laura, TBH I don't know the answer to this but have pinged one of the Atlassian Community Team members for an official answer. I agree that there should be a way to opt out. I have not seen many request for this (2-3) in my lifetime here but still a valid question to be sure. I will update here once I hear back.

One final note, I'm sure you didn't mean anything negative here but there are a lot of members in the Community that consider themselves professionals including myself. Many of these folks really like the badge system but that doesn't make them any less professional. Just raising this to ensure we keep the Community a fun place to get excellent help and share interests.

Cheers,

jack

Thank you for pointing this out @Jack Brickey! Also I have to defend the Girl Scouts; it's a great organization. (And okay, yes, I used to be one.)

In all seriousness though, Laura, I appreciate the feedback! Although some of the badges are more fun or frivolous, we try to keep the core of the badge program focused around providing answers and providing accepted solutions.  This hopefully means that you will get faster, more accurate answers to your product questions and find valuable content here. Combined with turning off badge notifications, I hope this will give you a good community experience.
